Meanwhile, contrary to popular belief, smoking is rarely, if ever, addictive in nature. In reality, smoking is nothing more than an acquired, self-taught, self-programmed habitual behaviour.
Strange but true; but just think about it logically, does anyone really enjoy their first experiences of smoking? Simply put, new smokers must overcome their own critical thinking and natural physiological objections (coughing, nausea, congested sinuses and light headedness etc.) to allow themselves to continue inhaling unpleasant tasting, noxious smelling and highly toxic vapours, every time they light up.
Most smokers will probably have heard that hypnosis can be used to help quit smoking. However, it’s less well recognised, that in a subtle, but nonetheless very real sense, smokers were hypnotised into taking up the habit in the first place.
The ‘smoker in waiting’ will have been entranced (hypnotised) by the example and influence of their peers, who seemingly looked “cool” or perhaps “suave, mature and sophisticated” puffing on a cigarette. Perhaps, they were persuaded to “indulge” just to “fit in” and make them one of the gang? Maybe, the fledgling smoker was erroneously programmed to believe that inhaling toxic cancer inducing fumes deep into their lungs would help them relax and relieve the stress of the day when nothing could be further from the truth.
